How to tell when your mango is perfectly ripe

Use aroma, touch and colour to know when a Pakistani mango is ready to eat.

A ripe mango should smell sweet and fragrant near the stem. If there is no aroma, give it another day or two at room temperature.

Press the fruit gently with your fingertips. It should yield slightly without feeling mushy. Colour alone is not a reliable test because each variety ripens differently.

Keep unripe mangoes out of the refrigerator. Once ripe, chill them to slow further softening and enjoy them within a few days.
